Module 1 Introduction to EMS auditing	Tutorial: ISO 14001 Standards, Accreditation, Certification	A discussion of the various EMS standards and how the certification system works.
	Workshop: Pre-course work - Clauses of the standard	Audit understanding: A discussion of the pre-course work, to get participants thinking about the way the standards are interpreted

Module 2 Initiating the Audit	Tutorial: Why Audit? Audit process, Auditor qualifications	The audit begins with a discussion of the reasons for auditing, and how we can make this a professional process
	Workshop: Pre-course work - Selecting the auditor team	Audit preparation: A discussion about the characteristics of good auditors
	Workshop: Understanding EMS auditing procedures	Audit preparation: An opportunity to look at some audit procedures and sicuss the implications
Module 3 Audit Preparation	Tutorial: Environmental aspects	An introduction to identifying environmental aspects, and shy this is important for the auditor

	Tutorial: Documents and records	The place of documentation in the EMS and its uses when auditing

	Workshop: Audit Planning - Environmental risk prioritisation	Audit preparation: Participants perform a simple "impacts prioritisation" for the auditee site, to determine audit priorities
	Tutorial : Checklists	How to create suitable EMS audit checklists for audit work. Introduction to evening work

Evening (11/2 hr)	Workshop: Checklists and preparation for audit interviews	Audit preparation : Participants identify the detailed issues for the part of the site that the auditor will look at, using site information
Day 2 08.30 Module 3 cont.	Workshop : Checklists feedback	Audit preparation : Checklists are discussed to see if there are any gaps, and enable thorough preparation for the audit interview
Module 4	Evaluation and reporting
	Tutorial: Auditor skills	A summary of useful audit skills and techniques; questioning techniques, notetaking etc.

	Workshop: Preparation for interviews	Audit preparation: Participants prepare for their interviews of site personnel

	Tutorial: Writing Nonconformance reports	How to write clear nonconformities sothe auditor can leave a professional audit record behind
	Workshop: Critiquing nonconformity statements	Simulate audit: Participants examine some nonconformity statements from a prevoius audit to determine if these are acceptable
