Value Stream Mapping
Overview
Mapping the Value Stream is one of the critical initial steps on the Lean journey. It is a powerful technique that will help teams to see the value and waste within an organization and provide a foundation for building a Lean enterprise. This interactive and practical course will provide participants with a step by step guide to the development of a current state Value Stream Map.
Course Objectives
This course will develop knowledge of Value Stream Mapping and the ability to examine the map to identify and prioritize subsequent improvements and develop a future state map.
When delivered in-house, the second day is spent on the shop floor applying the learning within a real value stream.

Through the combination of interactive discussions, tutorials and case studies, our course will enable the delegates to:
- Apply the key Lean principles
- Construct and assess a current state Value Stream Map
- Identify opportunities for improved flow
- Develop a Future State Map and develop an action plan to achieve the future state
- Conduct real life mapping on the shop floor

Overview of OHSAS 18001 and the relevance of it to a business management system.
- Overview of Lean strategy and the purpose of the Value Stream Map
- The concept of Value Add, Non Value Add and the seven wastes
- The concept of Takt time
- Value Stream calculations and Lean metrics
- Selecting and defining the Value Stream to be mapped
- Drawing the current state map
- The Lean Value Stream
- Introduction to the three types of flow; material, process, information
- Pull systems, Kanban and supermarkets
- Constraint management
- The Pacemaker and levelling the production mix
- Development of the Future State Map and plan to get there
- Bringing the learning together: application through simulation
- Bringing the learning to life: application on the shop floor
Further development opportunities suggested would be Creating Continuous Flow and Lean Six Sigma Overview. Consultation can also be provided with Value Stream Mapping activities.
